5 REASONS YOU SHOULD HIRE AN INTERIOR DESIGNER

Have you ever walked into a place and got awed by the general layout, color, design style, and décor of the space? No doubt you’d love to spend more time there. ⁣

Amazing interior design does not happen by chance; it takes the expertise of an Interior Designer. Whether you have no idea about how to design/decorate your home or you are too busy to execute your desired style, here are 5 reasons to hire an Interior Designer:⁣

1. Save Your Money⁣

There are so many designs, materials, styles, color options, etc to choose from. If you don’t do sourcing every day, it can be very difficult to know the best quality for your budget. A designer is definitely trained to know how to get the best value for your budget.⁣

2. Get Professional Advice⁣

Interior Designers also wear the cap of relationship managers. Sometimes stakeholders in a home (husband, wife, and kids) have different design styles. An interior designer will look for the common denominator to balance out stakeholders needs while still creating a beautiful interior.⁣

3. Save Time⁣

An Interior designer already knows where to go for resources related to home improvements. This will save you an endless amount of time researching prices and products or testing of products to determine which will fit your space. They are experienced at sourcing, scheduling, and project execution.⁣

4. Quality Service⁣

Interior designers understand the importance of standards and have a list of trusted vendors whose integrity is at stake if they offer poor service. This makes them committed to providing the best quality service.⁣

5. Risk Transfer⁣

Have you ever engaged an artisan and they abscond with the money? Why not avoid that heartache and transfer the risk to a professional? The truth is designing a home can be tedious and capital-intensive. From sourcing, tracking budget/time, managing vendors, quality assurance, etc. A professional takes the stress off you.⁣

Finally, we all want to create beautiful spaces that engender beautiful memories for a long time, while being cost conscious. To achieve this, your best bet is to get an interior designer. You know why? Because it’s what we do for a living.

HOW TO USE LIGHT FIXTURES IN INTERIOR DESIGN

Growing up, I enjoyed watching TV without light in the room. The brightness from the TV was just okay for me – it was more relaxing. ⁣

Every time I tried keeping the fluorescent light on, I had a headache. The fluorescent tube above the TV was the problem. It took me years to figure that out. It is estimated that 80-90% of people who suffer from migraines also experience painful sensitivity to light.⁣

Lighting is an important aspect in Interior Design and it makes a great difference in the way space is perceived and used.⁣

However, the type of light fixture and its positioning in our space is an important factor to be carefully considered during space planning.⁣

Here are 3 factors to consider before choosing your light fixture:⁣

☑️How Will This Space Be Used?⁣

The activities to be carried out in the space will determine the type of lighting. A supermarket, for instance, will require bright lighting as it is a visual enhancer for customers to see the products on display and be attracted enough to buy. A bedroom, on the other hand, will require a subtler form of lighting.⁣

☑️Size of the Room/Space⁣

The size of the room will determine the number of lights needed. Be sure to involve a specialist as too many light sources can be distracting as well as impractical to maintain.⁣

☑️What Mood Are We Trying to Create in This Space?⁣

The way a space is lit will go a long way to determine how the end-users of such space will feel. Imagine installing a colored light in your study? Wrong choice, right? It can trigger headaches, strain the eyes and bring about other discomfort.

Beyond its functional use, lighting fixtures are a visual feature in themselves. Whether they are being used or not, they must fit the overall design of the space. Without light (natural or artificial), all of the other elements would not be able to shine to their full potential.⁣

What do you think?⁣
How best have you used lighting at home the office?⁣

Tip: If you just take a quick look around your home right now, you’ll see what we’re about.

HOW TO USE COLOUR IN INTERIOR DESIGN

When it comes to designing spaces, colour is an important element of design to consider.⁣

Consider the following four Scenerios:⁣

1.⁣
Making space appear bigger usually involves use light colours such as white because it gives a room a brighter, airier and larger feel. On the other hand, dark colours often “shrink” a room or give the illusion of a smaller space.⁣
.
2.⁣
To create a particular mood in end-users, it has been long established that colour can affect our mood, feelings, and emotions. The colour of a room plays a role in shaping the mood of those in it. Imagine walking into a public toilet that has all its walls painted black, will you consider using that toilet? 🤔🤔⁣
Well, we thought same.⁣
.
3.⁣
As a designer, if you want to use colour as an accent or to zoom in on a particular place in the apartment, use a small amount of a particular colour to create a focal point there. Ideally, a bold, striking colour is used which, although different from other colours in the room, complements the key colours used in the overall colour scheme.⁣
.
4.⁣
A smooth and flawless wall is every designer’s dream, innit?⁣
But in reality many projects, especially renovations, will require you hide existing flaws like uneven walls. You can technically use colours to redirect a viewer’s eye (attention) away from such flaws. 👌👌⁣ In conclusion, colour can quickly become overwhelming if used inappropriately but when carefully used, it can lead to the creation of an amazing interior for your clients.
